It is important to tailor the individual treatment components to the individual needs and to take into account different professional perspectives.

Ambulatory multimodal pain therapy

Chronic pain changes people. According to current estimates, there are around 8 million chronic pain patients in Germany. In other words, people who have been suffering from pain for at least 6 months, many of them for years. Initially, there was „only“ a locally limited defect; however, chronicization means a vicious cycle of pain, pain-inducing rest, and psychological impairment.

Persistent pain means stress: It leads to tensions in partnerships and families, conflicts in the workplace, and a lack of motivation or exhaustion.

If the pain becomes persistent, it is necessary to identify the individual causes of the pain and to question previous standard diagnoses. The goal of diagnosis in the Schmerzwerkstatt München is to create a pain map for each patient. The various causes of pain must be discovered and understood by both the patient and the doctor. A common basis for this is the Munich back pain model and the bio-psycho-social model of pain chronification.

With various interconnected sources of pain, a single therapeutic approach using medication, injections, or physical therapy may not be effective. The term „multimodal pain therapy“ refers to a combination of different complementary therapeutic forms. Building on the detailed initial consultation and the various findings, it is necessary to tailor the individual treatment components to the individual needs.

In addition to physical or movement therapy units, the detection and reduction of stress factors of various origins are of crucial importance. Only in this way can the goal of reducing pain be achieved while simultaneously improving quality of life. Depending on the individual case, we provide you with tips on various relaxation techniques such as yoga, autogenic training, or progressive muscle relaxation – also taking your budget into account. Because with some courses you can receive reimbursement for your expenses.

We follow the principle that outpatient therapies precede inpatient treatment. For most of our patients, this means being able to remain in their usual environment. However, if the health condition worsens, multimodal pain therapy may also be necessary under partially or fully inpatient conditions. In this case, an 11 to 18-day inpatient stay in a specialized pain clinic will then take place. Day-care treatment is also possible in selected cases. We are happy to recommend appropriate clinics in Munich and beyond. We can help you arrange timely appointments and clarify the cost coverage by your health insurance company.
