Chronic pain is a vicious cycle of pain, pain-related rest, and psychological impairment caused by stress. Based on the Munich back pain model, it is possible to approach pain causes that have often remained unknown until now. Especially in the case of chronic pain, it is important to identify individual stress factors that lead to increased muscle tension and thus to an exacerbation of the symptoms. The complexity of chronic pain makes it difficult to identify individual pain causes. We rely on the expert clinical judgment of the physician during the consultation and physical examination, and combine the findings with the results of imaging techniques. For this reason, all computer and magnetic resonance imaging of the spine are independently and independently evaluated in the pain workshop in Munich. In addition, we apply diagnostic blockades depending on the individual case. This often underestimated procedure helps identify individual pain causes: If pain relief occurs after the targeted removal of a nerve or a spinal joint, a pain cause has been identified. This makes it possible to gradually create an individual pain map with relevant pain triggers. Only then is the initiation of targeted and therefore effective therapy sensible. In the case of chronic conditions, multimodal treatment has proven effective. With a mosaic of individually tailored therapy components, we approach your problem from multiple angles. The number of physiotherapy sessions and the type of medication are tailored to your specific case, as are any necessary imaging interventions. Important additional therapeutic elements include relaxation techniques and a change in the way you manage remaining residual symptoms.
In the Pain Clinic, we emphasize the utilization of all available procedures. If no satisfactory reduction in pain is observed after that, a pain pacemaker may be an alternative for selected patients. Suppressing the pain pathway in the spinal cord provides relief. In 70 of % our patients, we have % achieved a pain reduction of 50%.
